School supplies without breaking the bank (or donate)

This is the first year I will have a child in public school.  Previously, she attended preschool, but now she has hit the big leagues: Kindergarten.  Dun, dun, Dunnnn.  Up until now, I've always hit these super back to school sales at Target, Staples, and Office Depot with the sole intent of giving all the supplies away to our neighborhood Elementary School so the school can provide other students with supplies they may not be able to afford, or allow teachers to have extras so that they can have backup supplies.  I know stop laughing, what teacher actually has backup supplies?!

Get a Free Sharpie Marker at Target using their printable $1/1 off Sharpie Permanent Marker Item.

So, this week at Staples they are having their first sale of the season and it's a good one: penny and quarter items.

Penny items
  • Cap Erasers
  • Bic pens
  • School glue
Quarter Items
  • 2-pocket folders
  • Tape flags
  • Mechanical pencils
  • Pencil sleeve
  • Ream of printer paper (after rebate)
To check out the whole list of items, see this week's flyer.

Another way to save, is to purchase the Back to School Savings Pass for $10 and get 15% off all purchases at Staples until 09/17/2011.  This is obviously not a great deal is you are only buying the above penny and quarter items, but if you start buying the $1 items, they price starts to add up quickly.  Something to consider.
